Stillingsbeskrivelse

The Department of Information Science and Media Studies at the University of Bergen invites applications for a three-year PhD Research Fellowship in Games and Interactive Digital Narratives. The position is based at the Center for Digital Narrative (CDN) and is set to commence on February 1, 2027.

The Role

As a PhD fellow, you will conduct research on games and interactive digital narratives from a player perspective. The project will focus on how players and communities construct meaning through playful participation. You will be part of the Computer Games and Interactive Digital Narrative research group, contributing to the center's mission to understand agency, interactivity, and narrative sensemaking in digital environments.

Research and Training

The position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment dedicated to completing a doctoral degree. You will participate in the Faculty of Social Sciences’ PhD programme, which includes a 30 ECTS training component. You are expected to work independently, maintain a structured research process, and contribute to the academic environment at the university.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) in game studies, digital culture, media studies, or a related field.
  • Academic results corresponding to a grade B or better on the master’s thesis and overall degree.
  • Proficiency in written and oral English.
  • Strong independent research and cooperation skills.
