PhD Position in Sport Management

The Department of Sport and Social Sciences at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH) is advertising a three-to-four-year PhD position in sport management. This project focuses on how organized sport can contribute to increased physical activity among adults, exploring social dimensions like community building, social interaction, and integration.

The candidate will have the freedom to define the specific focus within sub-disciplines such as organization, marketing, communication, governance, or sport policy. The project should ideally focus on the Norwegian/Scandinavian context.

Main tasks:

  • Complete an independent research project under supervision.
  • Complete PhD courses corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points.
  • Actively participate in research environments and collaborate with fellow researchers.
  • Disseminate research results at international conferences and in scientific journals.
  • Potential teaching and supervision tasks depending on department needs.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Master's degree in sport management or a related field with a minimum grade of B or international equivalent.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability for independent and creative thinking and be ambitious regarding their research project.
  • Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary academic environment.
  • A well-structured PhD project description relevant to the position must be submitted with the application.
