We are now looking for a Hydrologist who can help us to continuously improve Volue’s ability to provide value to customers in line with the Volue mission. This entails building, improving and operationalising hydrological forecast models that are critical for energy producers, traders and system operators across Europe.

What you will be doing to make a difference:

  • Contribute to building and improving hydrological forecast models (inflow, snow, runoff and water balance) across short, medium and long horizons.
  • Apply a mix of process-based hydrology and machine learning/statistical methods to improve forecast accuracy and robustness.
  • Work with diverse data sources, including observations, reanalyses, NWP outputs, satellite products and customer data.
  • Support the development of end-to-end pipelines for model training and operational forecasting in collaboration with data engineers and developers.
  • Evaluate forecast performance and continuously identify areas for improvement.
  • Visualise data and forecasts to generate insights for both internal teams and customers.
  • Support customer discussions when needed and help explain forecast behaviour.
  • Stay up to date on developments in operational hydrology and applied machine learning, bringing new ideas into the product.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in hydrology, water resources, environmental physics, geosciences, meteorology or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience working with hydrological or environmental data such as precipitation, snow, or inflow time series.
  • Programming skills in Python with an interest in writing clean and maintainable code.
  • Familiarity with machine learning approaches for environmental or time-series data.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
