Associate Professor / Professor in Sport Nutrition
The Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate for a full-time position as Associate Professor or Professor in Sport Nutrition, with a focus on performance nutrition, at the Department of Physical Performance.
The Position
The successful candidate will play a central role in the development of a new Master program in Sport Nutrition starting in August 2026, contributing to teaching, research, and academic leadership. The Department of Physical Performance conducts basic and applied research on the biological effects of physical training, spanning exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the sports nutrition research field at the institution.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration within the department.
- Participate in teaching and course development at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students.
Competence Requirements
The department is looking for a candidate with a strong international research profile and documented expertise in applied sport nutrition, energy availability, dietary assessment methods, and physiological responses to nutrition. Experience with advanced methodologies and strong statistical analysis skills are required.
Working Conditions
Salary is offered according to the Norwegian State pay scale (employment code 1011 for Associate Professor / 1013 for Professor), ranging from NOK 790,000 to 1,000,000 depending on qualifications. NIH offers excellent training facilities and is a member of the Norwegian State Pension Fund.
Requirements
- A PhD (or equivalent) in sport nutrition, human nutrition, exercise physiology, or a closely related field is required.
- The candidate must document a strong record of high-quality scientific publications.
- Experience in teaching and supervision at bachelor’s, master’s, and preferably PhD level is required.
- Documented basic pedagogical competence (university teaching certification) is a prerequisite for permanent employment.
- Proficiency in oral and written English is required, and non-Scandinavian speakers must acquire Norwegian language skills at level B2 within three years.
