Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager (EM) to build and develop high-performing engineering teams through strong leadership, coaching, and organizational effectiveness. The Engineering Manager ensures engineers have the support, capabilities, and environment needed to perform at their best and successfully execute on business priorities.

At Elliptic Labs, engineering spans embedded development, machine learning, embedded ML inference, signal processing, and software development. Staff Engineers provide technical leadership and drive development, while Product Owners are responsible for planning, backlog ownership, and day-to-day execution. Engineering Managers work closely with both, bringing together people leadership, technical understanding, and organizational effectiveness to help teams perform at their best.

This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, a solid technical foundation, and the ability to work closely with Staff Engineers and Product Owners to balance individual development, team effectiveness, engineering capacity, and company priorities. You will manage engineers across multiple product-oriented teams and report to the CTO.

What You’ll Own

  • People management: hire, onboard, and coach engineers; run 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations.
  • Team effectiveness and culture: build healthy ways of working, identify and remove organizational blockers, and create an engaged, high-performing engineering environment.
  • Capacity and organizational planning: maintain a clear view of skills, capacity, and capabilities across engineering; anticipate gaps; and drive hiring and staffing decisions in line with company priorities.
  • Engineering partnership: work closely with Staff Engineers and Product Owners to understand technical and product challenges, align priorities with available capacity, and build a shared understanding of commitments, risks, trade-offs, and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • You have experience managing engineers, including hiring, coaching, career development, and performance management, in a software organization.
  • You possess a strong technical foundation in software engineering.
  • You have a track record of building healthy, high-performing engineering teams and developing engineers at different stages of their careers.
  • You demonstrate strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust, give direct feedback, and navigate people-management topics constructively.
  • You have experience working across teams and technical domains, with the ability to understand dependencies, surface organizational risks, and help teams collaborate effectively.
