Science Coordinator
Statsraad Lehmkuhl is one of the world’s oldest and largest active tall ships, with home port in Bergen, Norway. We are now seeking a Science Coordinator to help strengthen Statsraad Lehmkuhl as a platform for ocean science, education, and public engagement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all scientific equipment on board, including operation, maintenance, and instruction.
- Serve as the contact point for charterers regarding research programs.
- Perform practical scientific work, including coordinating research stations and collecting/analyzing water samples.
- Provide guidance and supervise students or volunteering scientists on board.
- Conduct outreach and instruction for crew, visitors, and via social media.
- Communicate and transfer research data from ship to shore.
Working Conditions
Starting in January 2027, this position operates on a 1:1 rotation system (4–6 weeks on board, 4–6 weeks off duty). Standard working hours are 10 hours per day. Food and accommodation are provided while on duty.
Requirements
- Minimum MSc in marine science, oceanography, environmental science, or a related field.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and ability to communicate in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish.
- Ability to work at sea for extended periods and obtain a maritime medical certificate.
- Experience handling scientific equipment and field sampling.
